Irving S. Gilmore International Piano Festival
Company Overview
The Irving S. Gilmore International Piano Festival promotes and develops world-class piano musical experiences through its Classical and Jazz Artist Awards for pianists; a biennial, 17-day piano festival featuring the most accomplished international artists; an outstanding music education program and the commissioning of new music for the piano.
Company History
In 1989, trustees of the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation of Kalamazoo, Michigan, announced plans to honor the memory of Irving S. Gilmore, a local businessman and philanthropist, by creating some of the most unique and significant awards for pianists anywhere in the world and a biennial piano festival to celebrate piano music.
The first Gilmore Festival and Awards were given in 1991 and have continued since then, more or less in their current format. The Festival has doubled in size since 2002, and now includes concerts in the “off-season” years in addition to expanded educational and commissioning programs.
