The Indian River County Sheriff's Office is committed to providing quality service to the citizens and visitors of Indian River County. In fact, we are only one of eleven Sheriff's Offices in the state to be CALEA, FCAC and CFA accredited.

The Sheriff's Office mission is to serve the public with dignity, integrity and professional service while enhancing our partnership with the community in order to protect life and property, prevent crime and solve problems.


Company History

The Indian River County Sheriff's Office was founded in 1925.

A message from Sheriff Deryl Loar:

"As the 10th Sheriff of Indian River County, I am honored and proud to serve the citizens of Indian River County. I am equally proud of the men and women who make our agency such an outstanding place to work."

Sheriff Loar administers the Sheriff's Office with an Undersheriff, three sworn Majors, three sworn Captains, a civilian Director, and a Comptroller. The Majors command the agency's Administrative, Support Services, Law Enforcement and Corrections Divisions with an authorized strength of 490 employees, 313 sworn and 177 civilian. Auxiliary staff provides countless hours of support and includes 10 Reserve Deputies and over 100 Volunteers.

Employee Benefits Include:

•Major Medical insurance is provided at $30.00 per month for single coverage and $247.50 per month for family coverage.

•Life insurance policy equal to employee's annual salary provided at no cost. Additional coverage is available at employee's option and expense.

•Annual leave accrues at 8 hours for each month the employee works more than half of the work days for that month.

•Sick leave accrues at 8 hours for each month the employee works more than half of the work days for that month.

•Eleven paid holidays.

•Florida Retirement System (FRS): Employee contributes 3% of annual salary and the Sheriff's Office contributes the balance.

•Starting salary for law enforcement or corrections deputies is $38,950.00. The agency does not increase the starting pay based on experience.

•Education incentive pay for college degrees available to all employees.

•Uniforms and equipment provided to law enforcement and corrections deputies. Assigned vehicles furnished to eligible employees.
