Company Profile

American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra

Company Overview

The mission of American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (AFIPO) is to secure the financial future of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra so that it may continue to travel throughout the world bringing its message of peace and cultural understanding through music. Funds raised by AFIPO in the United States support the Orchestra's international touring program, educational projects, a wide array of musical activities in Israel and an endowment fund to further ensure the IPO's future.

Company History

Necessitated by the lack of substantial Israeli government subsidy or endowment for the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, AFIPO’s purpose was crystallized in 1980 through the joint vision of Fredric Mann and Zubin Mehta, who created an endowment fund in the United States to ensure the IPO’s future.

Since1981, generous contributions from thousands in the United States and Canada have generated over $15 million in AFIPO’s Herman S. Sandler Endowment Fund, helping to secure the Orchestra’s financial future, while providing general operating support.
